Walter has been carving for all his life. If you ask him how long he has been carving, he’ll tell you, “I started when I got my first pocket knife.” His serious carving started in the early ’80s after he retired from the U.S. Army. Walter specializes in carving wildlife — in particular, animals of the African wilds. He is, however, adept at carving in any subject area as evidenced by his many awards and ribbons earned at shows around the country, including the International Congress of Woodcarving in Iowa. Walter is an instructor in woodcarving and has instructed in the art for 20 years. Walter is a past president of the Texas Woodcarvers Guild and the North Texas Woodcarvers Guild (Dallas area).
