Happy Valentine’s Day from Hearing Professional Center! Valentine’s Day is a great time of year to commemorate and celebrate the relationships and love that you have in your life. But what happens to those relationships if you cannot hear or easily communicate with each other?
Studies have shown that people with untreated hearing loss are more likely to withdraw from social situations. When this happens, instead of interacting with the people they love, they become isolated. Isolation like this can lead to many other factors that affect a person’s psychology, as well as the social interactions that they do have, causing anger, stress, frustration, anxiety, the feeling that they are missing out, depression, embarrassment, and even paranoia. It also affects the people with whom they have relationships, sometimes making them feel unappreciated, helpless, defensive, unheard, ignored, and frustrated. This is a barrier that can affect any and all relationships that you deal with.
Treating the hearing difficulties you have can help alleviate many of these issues and can assist in strengthening the bonds of love that you do have, as well as open up an avenue for easier communication to work out these issues.
This Valentine’s Day, preserve and protect the relationships you have — and do not wait to do something about your hearing loss.
