Do I Need Hearing Aids?

Hearing loss is an insidious problem. In most cases, we don’t just wake up one day with a severe hearing loss. Instead, hearing gradually gets worse over the course of months, years, and decades. Because of its slow progression, it is common to get used to not hearing, and allowing that disability to become your “normal.”

If you find that you are asking people to repeat themselves more often, acting like you know what was just said even though you’re not sure, accusing people of mumbling, or turning up the TV to a level that is uncomfortable for others in the house, it is time to have your hearing tested. Even a mild hearing loss is enough to justify hearing aids if it is impacting your daily life.

If you have found that you have a loss that is more severe, but are on the fence about what to do, I would encourage you to start a trial with hearing aids. Typically your provider will allow you to try them for a limited time for little or no charge. You will be amazed by what you have been missing.
