This Easter, be sure to use those ears to the best of their ability.
Millions of Americans must suffer with hearing loss. Many of us are affected by hearing loss, whether we have a hearing loss, or know someone who does. Sometimes, if we don’t have a hearing loss, it can be difficult to relate to and truly understand what our loved ones with a hearing loss go through on a daily basis. View the video above for a visual approximation of several forms of hearing loss.
This is a visual equivalent of a severe high frequency hearing loss. When people have this hearing loss, many consonant sounds cannot be heard. As hearing decreases, we start to lose some of those sounds, and it becomes much more difficult. The brain then tries to fill in the blanks, but sometimes comes up with the wrong thing. We still hear the speaker, but we cannot understand the message.
This goes to show you just how much effort goes in to trying to decipher meaning. Having an entire conversation can be overwhelming and exhausting.
So this Easter, if you feel that you or a loved one is suffering with a hearing loss, do not hesitate to do something about it. Make your lives a bit easier, and see what can be done to treat it.
